Step 2 - Envelope solutions

The activities of OO2 aims to test an original skylight system, designed as a component of an active envelope, in which it is possible to integrate photovoltaic cells and systems to produce hot water without compromising the passage of light inside the building. 

The design phase of this original transparent closure system, to be integrated into the upper closure of the nZEM module, will be accompanied by ongoing verification of its mechanical and physical characteristics. Furthermore, once the concept of the nZEM skylight has been defined, its potential will be validated through energy simulations conducted in a dynamic regime, aiming to demonstrate its effectiveness in reducing indoor overheating phenomena in the summer months and heat loss in the winter months.

The activities carried out under this operational objective are the following:

  1. Development of the innovative façade concept
  2. Drafting of a meta-project model and performance requirement assessment of its characteristics
  3. Functional verification of the tested technological solutions of opaque and transparent envelopes
  4. Dynamic regime energy simulation
